The Trump Administration and how Latin America’s Next Generation of Authoritarian Leaders are Consolidating Power

July 22, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

This is the first in a four-part event series on the Trump administration’s impact in Latin America. Information about future events is forthcoming. For more information, email khernandez@wola.org.

This coming Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. EST, the Washington Office on Latin America will launch the first virtual event in a four-part series that examines the Trump administration’s profound impact on human rights and democracy throughout Latin America—and imagines alternative, human rights-respecting approaches to U.S. foreign policy. Bringing together experts from all over the region, the weekly series will start next week with an event on how President Trump’s foreign policy has emboldened authoritarians in the region. Future events will explore how the Trump administration has undermined anti-corruption and rule of law initiatives, threatened democratic norms and closed civic space, and endangered human mobility and migration. Instructions for webinar access will be emailed to registered participants.
