The CNE met yesterday about scheduling the elections. News that filtered out suggested that the soonest the CNE could carryout elections would be April 14. Makes sense given the technical complexity of carrying-out a national election.

Ultimas Noticias coverage today says that the Mesa de la Unidad Democratica is pushing for a mid-April date while the government is pushing for late April or early May election. It is a little hard to understand what each side is thinking since it seems clearly that for Maduro an earlier election is better. Perhaps the government thinks they need time to put together a constitutional amendment to allow Chávez to go directly to the National Pantheon.
