Starting on Saturday, November 13, la Comisión para los Derechos Humanos del Estado Zulia (CODHEZ) is launching the sixth edition of its Human Rights Fair (FDH), an annual event hosted by CODHEZ in alliance with a network of other human rights organizations in the state of Zulia, to allow civil society organizations and activists to offer their reflections about the human rights situation in Venezuela.

The sixth edition of the FDH will take place through mixed formats, with in-person activities in Zulia, as well as virtual conferences and concerts with livestreams via Zoom, YouTube, and Instagram over the course of November.

This event encourages wide participation by experts and members of Venezuelan and international civil society organizations to address the current context of civic space in Venezuela and the responses by civil society in the face of the country’s complex humanitarian emergency, by sharing their experiences in the pursuit of more dignified living conditions.

As a part of the Sixth Annual Human Rights Fair, on Tuesday November 16 at 10:00 a.m. Venezuelan time (9:00 a.m. ET) CODHEZ is hosting an event entitled “Challenges for the Protection of Civic Space in Venezuela,” in which panelists will reflect on the importance of protecting civic space from the perspectives of journalism, academia, unions, and organized civil society. The event will be moderated by WOLA Director for Venezuela Geoff Ramsey, and will feature presentations from Marino Alvarado of PROVEA, Luz Mely Reyes of Efecto Cocuyo, María Chiquinquirá Parra of Centro Gumilla, Ana Rosara Contreras of the National Nursing College, and Ángel Zambrano of Labo Ciudadano. This event will be conducted in Spanish and livestreamed on CODHEZ’s YouTube page.
