On Tuesday, March 16 at 9:00 am EDT, the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) invites you to attend an upcoming webinar on a civil society campaign for a peaceful, democratic solution in Venezuela:
As Venezuela’s protracted political crisis drags on, more and more voices on the ground are pushing the status quo in an effort to peacefully restore the country’s democratic institutions. On March 2, a non-partisan coalition of Venezuelan civil society organizations known as the Foro Cívico Nacional (National Civic Forum) presented a list of 15 individuals to be candidates for rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the authority that oversees elections in the country.
The initiative by Foro Cívico to select a new CNE is a major step in the campaign for free and fair elections in Venezuela, even as it confronts great challenges amid deepening authoritarianism and repression on the ground. Join the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) on Tuesday, March 16 at 9:00 a.m. EDT for a discussion with three of the candidates proposed by the Foro Cívico about the current initiative, and the role for independent civil society in pressing for a transition.
