On Thursday, October 22 at 10:30 a.m. EDT, the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), along with the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS) and la Comisión Argentina para Refugiados y Migrantes (CAREF), will host a virtual event to mark the publication of the new report Mazes of Documents: Inequality and Migratory Regularization in South America.
On Thursday, November 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. ET, the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) will host a virtual event with prominent experts on U.S. sanctions policy towards Venezuela. Panelists will consider the impact of sanctions on Venezuela’s crisis, whether U.S. sanctions have constrained the actions of the Maduro government, and to what extent they can or should be reformed to more effectively contribute to a democratic solution and alleviate the country’s humanitarian emergency.
On Sunday, December 6, Venezuela will hold elections for a new National Assembly in a process that has been marked by widespread irregularities. In the lead-up to the vote three of the four main opposition parties have been essentially co-opted, their leadership stripped of formal recognition, and handed over to figures perceived as more friendly to the de facto government.
